The Dogon, a people now living along the Bandiagara Cliffs of southeastern Mali, apparently began their migrations westward from the Nile Valley around 550 A.D., probably as a result of the closing of Egypt’s last temple, the Temple of Isis at Philae, by Emperor Justinian and the subsequent persecutions of the devotees.
